ForumHost is a set of scripts that allow you to run your own free forum hosting service from your website. Users can sign up to create their board, design the layout, colors, functionality, etc. and edit this info later. The layout of the topics in ForumHost uses the classical tree structure you may've seen back in the late 90's, for example, the structure that Bravenet used up until recently. :) ForumHost was actually modelled very closely to Bravenet's free messageboard service. Bravenet unfortunately changed it's layout during the making of this script. :(
After a short browse around Google, ForumHost appears to be the *first* script of it's kind made available to the public! (Which isn't a first for NukedWeb, if you take a look around!). And to make things even better, this script is being offered FREE! ForumHost is being offered at no charge to give people a taste of the quality of the other premium scripts available on NukedWeb. Several other "Webmaster Services" scripts are also available. :)
Okay, here's a short summary of the features:
* Complete forum design - Users can design the complete head and foot of the forum pages, making it almost limitless to design their forum arund their own site.
* Several linking methods - Popup window, IFrame, or quick HTML links to their forums
* Image Attachments - Can be set on two levels. You, the admin, can enable or diable it for the whole service, and forum owners can decide whether or not to use this. Each can be shut off even if image attachments exist, and won't appear on posts.
* Replies Infinite Levels Deep - You can post a reply to a reply to a reply to a reply to a reply (I could go on..) and have it appear this way on the forum. (Might look weird though after 20 or so replies!)
* Smilies! - These smilies are read from a (editable) flat text file, and are usable in posts, replies, and next to message topics. Forum owners can enable/disable smilies.
* Profanity Filter - It works kinda funny, like the word "class" will be edited. Can't find a better way to filter profanity, so this will have to do. :) This too can be enabled/disabled by forum owners. |
